Made for Central Otago living
A light, understated shelter for a character-filled home
Set against the distinctive Central Otago landscape, this outdoor area called for a shelter that would complement the home without competing with it.
The house combines contemporary lines with the honest, rural character of corrugated metal cladding. The Flexiroof follows the same restrained approach: clean aluminium framing, a lightweight profile and translucent grey polycarbonate roofing that sits comfortably within the home’s existing palette.
The shelter provides coverage over the outdoor sitting area while preserving its open connection with the garden and surrounding landscape. Natural light continues to reach the space from above, avoiding the enclosed or heavy feeling that can come with a more conventional solid roof.
That balance is particularly valuable in a setting like this. The outdoor area gains meaningful protection from the elements, but the view, light and atmosphere that make the location special remain part of the experience.
The finished result feels less like a structure added to the house and more like a natural continuation of it—a sheltered place to sit, gather and enjoy the outdoors without losing the character of the home.
