A Carport Worth Looking At
Practical shelter with a lighter architectural presence on Waiheke Island
Carports are highly visible structures. Positioned at the front or side of a home, they can have a significant influence on how the whole property looks.
For this Waiheke Island home, Flexiroof was used to create vehicle protection without the visual bulk commonly associated with a conventional carport.
The clean aluminium framing and transparent polycarbonate roofing give the structure a lighter architectural presence. Daylight continues to pass through the roof, helping the area beneath and around it remain bright while still providing practical protection from sun and rain.
Its restrained design also allows the carport to sit comfortably alongside the home. Rather than appearing as a purely functional structure added as an afterthought, it forms a considered part of the property’s exterior.
This project demonstrates that the Flexiroof system isn’t limited to decks and outdoor entertaining areas. Its combination of strength, transparency and clean detailing can also provide an effective solution for vehicle shelter—especially where the appearance of the home remains an important consideration.
A carport will always need to perform a practical job. That doesn’t mean it needs to look purely practical.
