It is easy to think that you should match the roof line when building a shelter to a house with a nice simple gable design.
But it is generally not such a good idea, for a few reasons:
- Shelter is about shelter and a gable form gets very high along the ridge, and does not work as well for its core purpose, and
- The gable structure definitely adds cost, and quite a bit, as you have two roof planes, and a need to join and waterproof them, and
- From an architectural point of view if you look at the Central Otago house here you will a lot more horizontal and vertical references, so actually a single plane roof works very well!
